On November 30, 2005 Machinist Union Workers at Polar Tank Trailer in Opole , Minnesota rejected a proposed 3 year agreement by a vote of 28 for and 229 against margin.

Rising share of healthcare cost and wages were the key issues.

The company proposed a 60 per cent increase in the employee's share of the health insurance premium and for a wage package that workers felt was inadequate and would leave them far behind what other workers in their trade have been receiving.

Workers walked out of the plant at midnight, November 30 and have been on strike since.

District 165 has erected a tent in a nearby site and provided a 175,000 BTU heater and 500 gallons of propane to heat the tent.

Although the strike is nearing its 2nd week morale has remained high on the picket line.

The Company and Union have agreed to meet again on Wednesday, December 14th.

If anyone has any questions concerning this new agreement please feel free to call District 165 office at 252-4654.
